University Of Kentucky Basketball

Sometimes, I have way too much time on my hands. Last night and this morning were a good example of that. I am currently on vacation from work so I decided to do some research on something that I enjoy – the University of Kentucky Basketball team. Well, as someone with a degree in History, I love research too so I was actually doing two things I enjoy.

Anyway, I did some checking and found that there are currently (or will be by July 1st) 347 NCAA Division 1 Basketball teams. There were 345 this past season but the University of New Orleans, which had announced a couple of years back that it was switching from Division 1 to Division 2, announced last month that it was staying in Division 1, and Northern Kentucky University, my alma mater and current employer, will be making the move from Division 2 to Division 1 in July.

Anyway, I decided to come up with a list of Division 1 teams UK has a winning record against, teams UK has an even or losing record against, and teams that UK has never played. This is for current (or very soon to be) Division 1 teams only.

UK currently has a winning record against 188 Division 1 schools, an even or losing record against 19 Division 1 schools, and has never played 139 Division 1 schools.

The following is a breakdown of the categories (this is a long list):

Blog Changes

After some serious thought and many, many starts and restarts, I have decided to make some major changes in my blog. It is no longer going to be strictly about Southern Gospel. I am just too far removed from Southern Gospel due to distance to be able to consistently post about Southern Gospel all the time.

I am NOT giving up on Southern Gospel. In fact, many of my posts will still be about the music I love. But, I have decided that I will also make posts on here about other topics and interests in my life. Maybe by doing this, I will be able to post more often on a wide variety of topics.

This has nothing to do with Southern Gospel but I wanted to post it here anyway.

Life Is Funny

When I made my last post on January 1st, I had no idea it would be this long before I would be able to make another post. I am still following Southern Gospel but not as much as I would like to.  The way things look right now, I will only be able to attend one concert this year. That will be on April 14th when my son and I see Legacy Five and Greater Vision in Dayton, Ohio.

Unless someone decides to pay all of our expenses, my son and I will not be able to attend the National Quartet Convention this year, or in the forseeable future. His health issues, especially his multiple sclerosis, are part of the reason but the biggest part is the cost. One of my goals this year was to be more responsible with my money and I realized that it is more important to get my debts paid off as quickly as possible than to attend NQC. That was a difficult decision but I know it was the right one.

I also had to cut down, okay pretty much eliminate, buying CD’s or digital downloads. I already have 668 records, cassette tapes, CD’s, and digital downloads so space was an issue with that as well. It was not unusual for me to come home from NQC with 30, 40, 50, or even 60 more for my collection. I’ve listened to every one of them at least once, but I am definitely running out of space. I have all of the CD’s copied to my computer and I would like to get all of my records and cassettes copied as well, along with a backup copy on another computer. I would then be able to listen to them whenever I wanted but could sell the originals and free up some space.

Anyway, to make a short story even longer, though I am still quite passionate about Southern Gospel, I just do not have the time or the money to devote to it as I would like to do. That is the biggest reason this blog has been so quiet this year. I will post when I have something to post but that will probably not be too often.

Thanks for reading!

2011 in review

I thought it might be interesting and fun to post this!

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 5,300 times in 2011. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 4 trips to carry that many people.

Update And A Partial Concert Review

Once again life’s little circumstances have conspired against me! LOL

I have been so busy at work the past couple of months that I have had no time to do much else but work, eat, and sleep. On the plus side, I have been getting a ton of overtime. On the minus side, I have not been able to do much else.

I did get to see the Gaither Christmas Homecoming concert in Highland Heights, Kentucky on December 10th. Sort of. I had to leave at intermission and go to work because someone called off sick.

What I did get to see of the concert was very good. The Booth Brothers, The Martins, The Isaacs, Charlotte Ritchie, Kevin Williams, Gordon Mote, Buddy Greene, The Gaither Vocal band, and Gene McDonald all performed sets during the first half of the show, which went two hours and forty minutes. I really wanted to stay for the whole thing but I had to get to work. Fortunately for me, the day shift person agreed to stay over a few hours so that I could attend part of the show. Otherwise, I would have missed the whole thing.

I am hoping to be able to post more often now but I have hoped for that in the past as well and we have all seen that it never seems to work out. I will post when I can but I am not promising anything on a regular basis.
